Happy Thanksgiving from Plantation Florida!

Happy Thanksgiving from Plantation Florida!

We got to spend five days with our good friends Sue & Dave Jones in my home town, Plantation FL (west of Ft. Lauderdale). They have a perfect place for us to park in their yard and it’s free! We spent Thanksgiving day with their families, ate lots of great food and watched the Giants lose (again – ugh). Sue was babysitting her granddaughter, Aria, from Friday-Monday so we got to spend a lot of time with her. She is…

All Jacked Up in Melbourne Beach, FL

All Jacked Up in Melbourne Beach, FL

Well our latest mishap was inability to get our hydraulic jacks to lift when we were ready to head to Ft. Lauderdale on Thanksgiving morning…but more on that later. After leaving Disney World we stopped for a two-day layover at the Long Point Park in Melbourne Beach, FL on our way to Ft. Lauderdale. This place was recommended by some fellow campers we had met along the way. With all the rain they had been having the grounds were pretty…

Fort Wilderness Campground, Disney World Orlando

Fort Wilderness Campground, Disney World Orlando

You just gotta love Disney World!!! We had not been to Fort Wilderness since the kids were young and it was fun to go back and see it again. We were pretty tightly packed into our “deluxe” site on the 800 loop but there was plenty of privacy and room for us to set up the chairs on our patio for a family cook-out. Both of my sisters, Linda and Lisa, were staying with us and Linda’s son, Tyler, his…

North Beach Camp Resort, St. Augustine, FL

North Beach Camp Resort, St. Augustine, FL

I was excited about staying at the North Beach Camp Resort with the Atlantic Ocean on one end and the Intercoastal waterway on the other. When we arrived it was blustery and cool but as soon as we drove through the gate we knew we would love this place. It had a very beach feel, with sandy roads and lots of trees with hanging moss. We had a pull-through sight near the beach side of the park and got settled…

James Island County Park, Charleston S.C.

James Island County Park, Charleston S.C.

What a great park this was for camping! We had a beautiful site with full hook up, perfect satellite reception (using the remote satellite) and there were miles and miles of paved bike trails. It was a huge park with a conference center, cabins, boat rentals, a dog park and lake where folks raced their remote controlled sail boats. Also, while we were there they were having the annual Holiday Festival of Lights with 3 miles of over 700 light…

Huntington Beach State Park (Myrtle Beach) South Carolina

Huntington Beach State Park (Myrtle Beach) South Carolina

After our brief trip inland to visit Congaree National Park we headed back to the coastal beaches of South Carolina. I picked this park because it was right on the beach and it did not disappoint. We stayed in spot 100 with a wide open field behind us and just a short walk over the dunes on a boardwalk to a beautiful beach. Fortunately we arrived in time for me to take a nice long walk on the beach and…

Congaree National Park, South Carolina

Congaree National Park, South Carolina

I actually got Richard to go on a 2.4 mile hike today! We visited Congaree National Park which was about a one hour drive from our campground at Santee State Park, South Carolina. Congaree is a relatively new National Park, receiving its official designation in 2003. The Park is made up of lush trees growing in a floodplain forest with some of the tallest bottomland hardwood trees in the United States. The centerpiece is a 2.4 mile boardwalk that takes…

Santee, South Carolina (Congaree National Park)

Santee, South Carolina (Congaree National Park)

We stayed at Santee State Park in South Carolina to be near Congaree National Park, southeast of Columbia. We had a beautiful spot on Lake Marion. On our first night there the sunset painted the sky pink and blue and then the full moon came up over the lake! We had perfect weather and enjoyed the mostly empty park. The only thing missing was sewer hook-up so we had to empty the grey tank mid-stay using our portable blue tank…

Carolina Beach, North Carolina

Carolina Beach, North Carolina

I was looking forward to this spot near the beach and some warmer weather. We arrived on Sunday and unfortunately we were not able to get satellite reception at our site so we went in search of a sports bar to watch the Carolina vs. Bucs game. We found the Lazy Pirate, ate some wings and nachos, and watched the game which unfortunately the Bucs lost…but the defense did look good. I took a walk around the campground and up…
