Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

September 2018 This park was a real hidden gem! With the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail running 16 miles directly through the middle of the park it was perfect for exploring on our bikes. The path is wide and flat and follows the historic Ohio & Erie Canal route through the Cuyahoga River valley. There are multiple locks along the route that raised and lowered boats through the elevation changes along the river in the early 1900’s, connecting Ohio…

Streetsboro, Ohio (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

September 21-23, 2018 We entered Ohio and headed toward the Woodside Lake Park Campground in Streetsboro. Fortunately we were able to get satellite reception so that Richard could watch Tiger Woods win the Tour Championship at Eastlake Golf Club. I must admit it was pretty exciting. Otherwise we didn’t do too much here except for visit the Cuyahoga Valley National Park which you can read about at the National Parks tab, East. Next we are off to the great city…

Traverse City, Michigan

Traverse City, Michigan

September 14-17, 2018 We loved spending time in Traverse City! We stayed at the beautiful Holiday Park & Campground, a huge park on Silver Lake. We didn’t get to stay right on the lake but we did have a nice, wide spot with perfect satellite reception. We took a bike ride around the park and you can see some of the sights. We had been experiencing trouble with our 50 amp service since Alaska but we were getting by fine…

Mackinaw City, Michigan

Mackinaw City, Michigan

September 10-13, 2018 Heading south from Sault Sainte Marie we crossed the Mackinac suspension bridge (for a whopping $12 toll) and drove into Mackinaw City. From there it was about 10 miles to our beautiful camp site at Wilderness State park. We pulled into our full hook-up spot, just steps from the clear waters of Lake Michigan, and were delighted to find that we had excellent cell phone service and all 3 Dish satellites (using the remote satellite). I took…

Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

September 8-9, 2018 We crossed the bridge into Sault Sainte Marie and drove to the Soo Locks Campground on the Sainte Mary’s River.  We were one row off of the river but still had good views of the huge ships that are traveling to/from the Soo Locks. The Soo Locks have been there for over 160 years to help these vessels traverse the 21-foot drop between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Over 7,000 vessels pass through the Locks annually hauling…

Pictured Rocks National Seashore, Munising, Michigan

September 5-7, 2018 We decided to leave a day early from the Sunset Bay RV park to see if we could get out of the rain (plus we were missing satellite and cell phone reception). We made reservations at the Marquette Tourist Park in Marquette, Michigan and enjoyed our large corner lot (including satellite reception!). With many great bike trails and a beer festival coming up on Saturday we were sorry that we could only stay in Marquette one night….

Isle Royale National Park

Isle Royale National Park

September 2018 After getting up at 6 am we drove from our campground through the morning fog to Copper Harbor, Michigan. We boarded the Royale Queen IV passenger ferry and set sail for the Isle Royale at 8 am. It was foggy on the 3 1/2 hour journey but seas were calm so that was good. Once we arrived on the island we got off the ferry and one of the park rangers gave us some instructions and directed us…

On the Road to Isle Royale National Park

August 30-September 4, 2018 As we made our way towards Copper Harbor, Michigan to visit Isle Royale National Park we stopped for two days at the Legendary Waters Casino-Buffalo Bay Campground to visit the Apostle Islands National Seashore. The campground was on the shores of Lake Superior. The next day we took a drive along Lake Superior stopping at a few of the parks to view the Apostle Islands. It was a pretty day and there were lots of kayakers…
