North Cascades National Park

North Cascades National Park

June 2018

We had one day to explore North Cascades National Park so we made the most of it! Heading east from our campground in Concrete, Washington on Hwy 20 we entered the park from the west side and drove to the Visitor Center in Newhalem. Richard had a conversation with the bear while I got a map and some information from the park ranger.

We continued east along Hwy 20 stopping at Gorge Dam to check out the view and then walked across the metal open-grate bridge to Gorge Greek Falls (not recommended if you are afraid of heights!).

Our next stop was Diablo Lake Overlook. This was a stunning vista! Look at that beautiful water.

We continued on to North Cascades Highway seeing more and more snow as we climbed to over 5,000′.  Our final stop was Washington Pass. The road was closed here, due to the snow, so we had to park and walk about a mile to the short loop to view the overlook. It was definitely worth the walk! Look a that deep snow!

We turned around here and headed back home. On the way we stopped at the Ross Lake Overlook to snap a picture.

Then we took the Diablo Dam Road to drive across the dam and get a closer look.

Heading home we were very satisfied with the beautiful day we had in North Cascades National Park, with lots of sunshine and fabulous views.
