March 19-22, 2018 The original plan was to spend 4 days in Gila Bend in the Sonoran Desert near Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. March 16-18, 2018 We left the beautiful KOA in Tucson for a completely different camping experience in the Catalina mountains north of Tucson. This is a beautiful state park with paved roads and camping pads, surrounded by stunning mountains. As soon as we pulled in we noticed the many tiny prairie dogs that call this park home. March 2018 The Sonoran Desert, home to the Saguaro National Park, is the only place in the world that you can see the amazing saguaro cactus. Saguaros grow very slowly at first, an inch or so per year during their first 6 to 8 years. It may be 70 years before they grow to be 7′ tall and sprout their first branches, or arms.
