Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park

May 2018 The Olympic National Park is very diverse with coastal views, rain forests, mountains and glaciers. With nearly one million acres we could only hope to see a fraction of its beauty during our four days on the peninsula. On our first visit to the Park we went to the Hoh Rain forrest and took a hike on the Spruce Trail. This was not your typical humid, steamy rain forest but a cool, lush area with lots of moss…

Olympic Peninsula, Washington

Olympic Peninsula, Washington

May 18-21, 2018 We did a whirlwind tour of the Olympic Peninsula, along Highway 101, staying in 3 campgrounds over 4 nights. Whew! The reason we moved so often was due to the widespread access points to Olympic National Park. You can read more about the Park at the National Parks tab. Forks, Washington We originally planned to stay in the Bogachiel State Park for two nights but after pulling into our very tight spot with no cell phone, satellite…

Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

May 2018 We camped just 1/2 mile outside of Mount Rainier National Park. As we set up camp we noticed the back-up from the park entrance all the way to our campground. It was a beautiful Mother’s Day Sunday and everyone had decided it would be a good idea to visit the park today. Luckily our plans were to go the the park the next day and it did turn out to be much less crowded. We entered the park…

Castle Rock, Washington – Mt. Saint Helens – Not!

May 16-17, 2018 We drove south to Castle Rock, Washington to see Mount Saint Helens. After setting up camp our first stop was the Mount Saint Helens Visitor Center that was just across from our campground at Seaquest State Park. May 18th would be the 38th anniversary of the Mt. Saint Helens eruption in 1980 that killed 57 people, including an innkeeper, photographers and a geologist. Hundreds of square miles were reduced to wasteland and have been preserved within the…

Ashford, Washington

Ashford, Washington

May 13-15, 2018 Happy Mothers Day from Ashford, Washington! We stayed at the Mounthaven RV Park, just 1/2 mile outside of Rainier National Park. For more information on Rainier National Park go to the National Parks tab. It was a cute little campground, with lots of very tall, thick trees (=no satellite and no cell phone service) but very pretty. Deer walked through the park each day and we were close enough to the park for me to take a…

Seattle, Washington – Gateway to Rhode Island

Seattle, Washington – Gateway to Rhode Island

May 6-12, 2018 Although we set up camp at the Seattle KOA, this isn’t really an entry about Seattle. We parked the motorhome and then left the next day for Warwick, Rhode Island, to watch Jade defend her dissertation for her PhD degree. That being said, I would not recommend staying at this KOA. It is close to the airport but that is about the only good thing I have to say about it. The first site they assigned us…

Troutdale, Oregon – Gateway to the Columbia Gorge

Troutdale, Oregon – Gateway to the Columbia Gorge

May 4-6, 2018 We stayed at the Sandy River RV Resort, just outside of the cute town of Troutdale, Oregon, east of Portland. We chose this spot so that we could explore the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in the CRV and it was a great decision. We met a nice couple, Pam and Bill, who were full-timers who had been on the road for 6+ years. Pam drove their 42′ bus and pulled a full size Jeep all…

Heceta Beach, Oregon

Heceta Beach, Oregon

April 30-May 3, 2018 After adjusting our plans to avoid cold and snow at Crater Lake, we reserved a spot at the Heceta Beach RV Park on the Oregon coast. It turned out to be a good decision and we enjoyed 4 days near the beach. On our first day there Richard decided to install the new faucet that we had picked up earlier in Grants Pass. We wanted one with a sprayer on the end of the spout since…

Grants Pass, Oregon

Grants Pass, Oregon

April 27-29, 2018 Change of plans…bad weather near Crater Lake and Bend, Oregon (as in snow and freezing temps) caused us to adjust our plans once again and attempt to search for warmer climates. We stayed in Grants Pass, Oregon for three days at this beautiful site (#6) on the Rogue River at the Riverpark RV Resort. The spots were tight but it’s always nice to be by the water. We did have intermittant sun during our three-day stay and…
