Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

August 2018 Our first visit to the park was at the Ash River Visitor Center, about 30 miles from our campground. The visitor center used to be a hunting lodge and was very cozy, with a fire burning on this chilly day. The next day we went to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center, near International Falls, to catch our afternoon 2 1/2 hour Grand Tour boat ride in the park. Voyageurs is a water based park with 500+ islands and…

On the Road to Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

On the Road to Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota

August 24-29, 2018 Our next planned National Park stop is Voyageurs in Minnesota. On the way there we passed through North Dakota and Minnesota. Driving through Minot, ND to refuel, it brought back memories of when we visited our Dad there as children. I remember wearing my winter coat in July! We spent one night in Devil’s Lake, ND at Grahams Island State Park. It was a quick stop but this was a very nice park and I had an…

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota

August 2018 We camped in Williston, North Dakota, which is about 60 miles north of the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The South Unit is another 60+ miles south of there. Since we wanted to see both Units of the park we got up early and set off for the long drive to the South Unit. After about a 2 1/2 hour drive to the South Unit, our first stop was the visitor center. We got a map…

Williston, North Dakota (Theodore Roosevelt NP)

Williston, North Dakota (Theodore Roosevelt NP)

August 20-23, 2018 On our way to Williston, North Dakota along Highway 2 we spent one night at the Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs Inn and Campground in Montana. We had a nice long pull-through site so we didn’t even have to unhook the car plus there were only a couple of other campers in the park so it was very quiet. The next day we arrived in Williston and camped at the Lewis & Clark State Park Campground with plans…

Hello Lower 48! Great Falls, Montana

Hello Lower 48! Great Falls, Montana

August 17-19, 2018 Even though we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Canada and Alaska it was great to get back into the lower 48. We stayed at the Great Falls, Montana KOA which was very nice with a beautiful community kitchen, bathhouse and tiny cabins. With lots of bike trails in the area we decided to take a ride on the River’s Edge Trail along the Missouri River. I loved these painted bridge structures. Unfortunately about five miles into the…

Calgary, Alberta Canada

Calgary, Alberta Canada

August 15-16, 2018 Due to the fires near Glacier National Park we decided to head to Calgary and then enter the U.S. further east. We decided to stay at the Bow RiversEdge Campground, just west of Calgary. Right behind the campground was a great biking/walking trail along the river. As you can see from the pictures we were still dealing with the smoke from the fires in the west. On our one full day in Calgary we visited Heritage Park,…

Beautiful Banff National Park, Alberta Canada

August 8-14, 2018 We drove into Banff from Revelstoke and checked into our spot at the Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground in Banff National Park. Fortunately I had made reservations back in January because the campground was completely full the entire week we were there. Here is the campground and our site. The day we arrived was my birthday so we went out for a special dinner at the Three Ravens restaurant with beautiful sunset views. The next day we…

Revelstoke, British Columbia

Revelstoke, British Columbia

August 3-7, 2018 When we entered our destination in Revelstoke in the GPS it turned out the drive was going to be about 8 hours. That is a log day for us so we decided to stop and spend the night along the way. Richard found us a campground in Clearwater, B.C. and we spent one night there by the lake. They had a cute restaurant right on the water so we decided to eat dinner there and enjoy the…

Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada

July 29 – August 2, 2018 For our first two nights at Jasper National Park we stayed in Hinton, about 15 miles from the east gate park entrance. On our way to the campground we passed by some beautiful scenery and a couple of huge elk right by the road! We stayed at the Hinton/Jasper KOA. We made these reservations at the last minute and the only thing they had left was a premium site with a paved patio, gas…

On the Road to Jasper

On the Road to Jasper

July 25-28, 2018 We had four days to get to Jasper so we decided to spend two nights in Smithers and two nights in Prince George, along the Yellowhead Highway. Smithers was a cute town of about 5,500 people with an alpine theme. We stayed at the Riverside Municipal Campground which was very nice with full hookups and right on the river.   We went into town for groceries and bought some meat pies and buffalo burgers at the Sausage…
