Redwoods National Park, California

Redwoods National Park, California

April 2018 The Redwoods National Park is unique since there is no real entrance to the park, which extends along the northwestern coast of California for about 50 miles, with US 101 running through much of it, and it is very integrated with Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Once we got park maps and information from the Visitor Center in Crescent City we spent one full day driving south from Crescent City along US 101, partially along the coast and…

Crescent City, California

Crescent City, California

April 23-27, 2018 We stayed at the Redwoods RV Resort in Crescent City since it was on the coast and close to the Redwoods National Park. Here are some pictures of the campground and our new friends Barb and Rick that were our next-door neighbors. On our first day we set out to explore Crescent City and get some supplies. We drove by the beach and got a view of the Battery Point Lighthouse and the Pier. Unfortunately it was…

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Lassen Volcanic National Park

April 2018 This was perhaps our shortest visit to a national park ever, due to the fact that most of the roads were still closed because of the snow cover. Fortunately this was not a surprise since I had checked ahead and knew that we could only go a short way into the park before we would have to turn around. Of course we went to the park anyway, since we were only about 15 miles away, and it was…

Shingletown, CA

Shingletown, CA

April 20-22, 2018 We decided to stay at the Lassen/Shingletown KOA since it was only about 15 miles from the entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park. It was a really nice KOA on a beautiful piece of property with lots of activities for kids and adults. On our first day in Shingletown we went to Lassen Volcanic National Park and also drove by Mount Shasta. You can read about that at the National Parks tab. We had hoped to get…

Five Days in Sacramento, CA

Five Days in Sacramento, CA

April 15-19, 2018 We fled from the snow in Yosemite Valley to rain in Sacramento. We got there Sunday afternoon to gray skies and it poured rain all day Monday. It was fine. I took time to get things done around the house and Richard ran errands around town. We camped at Cal Expo where the California State Fair is held each summer. There are events going on throughout the year, including a dog show that was just finishing up…

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park

April 2018 This is the most beautiful park we have been in so far, especially with the massive amounts of water flowing down so many water falls! We entered the park from the South at the Wawona Visitor Center. There were signs up at the gate saying that chains were needed to proceed to Yosemite Village (due to snow and ice) but when we got to the gate they received an update that the coast was clear all the way….

Coarsegold CA (Yosemite National Park)

April 11-14, 2018 Here we are, about 25 miles south of Yosemite National Park, at the RVC Outdoor Resort. We spent two days in the park and you can read about that at the National Parks tab. Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been so please check out those pictures. The first night at this campground Richard was outside watching tennis on the TV and the neighbor stopped by to say that she was enjoying…

Pinnacles National Park

Pinnacles National Park

April 2018 Pinnacles is the newest National Park, established under President Obama in 2013. Since I had an outdated list of parks this one was not even on my radar screen but I noticed it on the map and had to check it out since it was only an hour away from where we were staying in Monterey. We arrived in the late morning, on the east side of the park, and were directed to park at the Pinnacles Visitor…

To Big Sur With Love, Monterey CA

To Big Sur With Love, Monterey CA

April 6-10, 2018 As we left the forest and headed for the coast I began to get excited about seeing the Pacific Ocean and taking that fantastic drive to Big Sur. We stayed at the Moss Landing KOA which was a short drive from Monterey Bay and the Pacific Grove area, home of Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf and the 17-Mile Drive. The campground was nothing special, calling itself a “KOA Express” due to the lack of amenities but the sites…

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

March 2018 Although these are two separate parks they are really treated as one, with a single map, etc. We spent two days in the parks, the first one primarily in Sequoia and the second in Kings Canyon. Coming from Three Rivers, we entered Sequoia National Park from the south, through the Foothills Visitor Center. We were not far from the entrance but there was almost a one hour backup as many cars were trying to get though this single…
