Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park

August 2019 Well they say “the third time’s a charm” and that was certainly true about our visit to Glacier National Park in Montana. We have tried to go there two other times but once it was snowing and once there were fires, so we were turned away twice. But not this time! We finally got to go there and it was well worth the wait. Considered one of the Crown Jewels of the National Park System, as you drive…

Kalispell, Montana (Glacier National Park)

Kalispell, Montana (Glacier National Park)

August 27-28, 2019 I got back from Hawaii on August 24th and after one more night near Portland, Oregon we headed towards Kalispell, Montana and Glacier National Park. We spent one night in Spokane, Washington (pronounced Spo-CAN in case you are interested) and then on to Kalispell the next day. We camped at the Rocky Mountain Hi Campground where we got perfect satellite reception so that we could continue watching the U.S. Open tennis tournament. This made Richard very happy….

Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake National Park

August 2019 Crater Lake, on this clear summer day, was so intensely blue it looked like ink, ringed by sheer cliffs towering up to 2,ooo feet. I am not sure that I have ever seen water so blue! This “gem of the cascades” is set in a dormant volcano, in the chain of volcanos including Mount St. Helens. The lake is 1,900 feed deep, the deepest lake in the United States. The park boasts some of the cleanest air in…

Fort Klamath, Oregon (Crater Lake National Park)

August 14-17, 2019 We were excited to spend 4 days at the Crater Lake Resort with our friends Rick and Barb, who we had met last year in California, camping near the Redwood Forrest. We arrived one day early and got set up at our spot on the river. This is a cute little campground. Rick and Barb arrived the next afternoon and we spent time catching up and then enjoyed Richard’s yummy shish kabob for dinner, along with a…

Bend, Oregon

Bend, Oregon

August 11-13, 2019 Half way between Boise, Idaho and Crater Lake, Oregon is Bend. We stopped there for a couple of days to check out the area, camping at the Crown Villa RV Resort. We had a perfect spot with a paved pad and lots of grass and shade. The resort had a covered hot tub and community fire pit. One of the main attractions in Bend is the High Desert Museum, a combination of living native wildlife, such as…

Boise, Idaho

Boise, Idaho

August 7-10, 2019 We had a great time in Boise, Idaho! We stayed in the Boise Riverside Campground. Here is our site. The best part about the campground was that we could hop on the Boise River Greenbelt trail on our bikes, which was about 50 yards from our campsite. It is a fantastic trail with lots of variety along the way and we rode about 20 miles round trip never having to cross a road! We started out cruising…

Twin Falls, Idaho

Twin Falls, Idaho

August 3-6, 2019 At last we are in Idaho! This is one of the states that I have never spent any time in so I was ready to do some exploring. We stayed at the Oregon Trail RV Park & Campground in Twin Falls. The name comes from the 2,170 mile emigrant wagon trail running East-West from the Missouri River to Oregon, with 510 miles passing through Idaho. On our first day in town we decided to check out the…

Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park

July 2019 I read recently that Great Basin National Park, near Baker, Nevada, is one of the top 5 parks to visit in the summer because it is beautiful and less crowded than many of the other more well known national parks. All true! Plus much of the park is at higher altitudes so it is much cooler than down below. With unseasonably hot weather in Nevada, it was quite a relief to get out of the heat, at least…

Baker, Nevada (Great Basin National Park)

Baker, Nevada (Great Basin National Park)

July 31-August 2, 2019 For a town with a population of 69, Baker, Nevada has a lot of personality. We stayed at the Whispering Elms Campground, just 7 miles from the Great Basin National Park entrance. It’s not the fanciest campground but it was full hook-up and we sure had fun there meeting lots of friendly people! We visited the Great Basin National Park the day after we arrived. For more information on the park please go to the National…

Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah

July 27-30, 2019 We found the KOA in Salt Lake City and drove into our roomy, pull-through site. Richard enjoyed watching golf in the shade on the outside TV. One of the reasons I selected this campground was that it was adjacent to the Jordan River Trail. We took off on a bike ride and the beginning of the trail was nice with commemorative signs honoring the U.S. medalists from the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and bridges over…
