Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

September 2018

This park was a real hidden gem! With the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail running 16 miles directly through the middle of the park it was perfect for exploring on our bikes. The path is wide and flat and follows the historic Ohio & Erie Canal route through the Cuyahoga River valley. There are multiple locks along the route that raised and lowered boats through the elevation changes along the river in the early 1900’s, connecting Ohio to the rest of the settled U.S. in the east. Here are some pictures of the Trail and locks.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad also runs along the Towpath Trail. With the Bike Aboard service you can ride your bike one way along the Trail and then catch a ride back on the train for just $5.

We ended up riding about 15 miles total round trip starting at the Boston Store Visitor Center and then turning around at the Hunt Farm Information Center. We were pleasantly surprised to find a fabulous farmer’s market at Hunt Farm, including flowers, fruits & vegetables, many types of pumpkins and other gourds. I have been loving the summer sweet corn and we found a mountain of it here! We did buy some corn but since we were on our bikes we couldn’t fit much else.

They also had live music, a corn maze, hay ride and other fun things for the kids.

We had a great afternoon in the park and would highly recommend a visit there on a sunny day with your bike.
