Quick Stop In Rawlins, Wyoming

Quick Stop In Rawlins, Wyoming

July 25-26, 2019 We made a quick stop in Rawlins, Wyoming because it is the midway stop between the Rocky Mountain National Park and Salt Lake City, where we are headed next. Well I must say that the Rawlins KOA is one of the worst campgrounds we have stayed in. It was all dirt/gravel roads and we were surrounded by apartment buildings. Yuck! We stayed an extra night in Rawlins because I wanted to check out the Frontier Prison Museum,…

Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park

July 2019 The Rocky Mountain National Park is stunningly beautiful with mountains, wildflowers, snow fields and abundant wildlife. The main road through the park, Trail Ridge Road, running from east to west, traverses a ridge climbing to over 11,000 feet. The road travels through three distinct ecosystems: montane (below 9,000 feet), subalpine (9,000 t0 11,400 feet), and alpine (above 11,400 feet). We drove into the west park entrance at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center, only a couple of miles from our…

Grand Lake, Colorado (Rocky Mountain National Park)

July 21-24, 2019 We loved the Winding River Resort Campground, bordering the Rocky Mountain National Park! One great thing about it was the farm animals on the property. They had an adorable little farm with pigs, sheep, goats, ponies, calves and more. I love the one with the girl feeding the calf with a bottle while the other sucks on her finger. They were so adorable! They also had beautiful horses for trail rides and for pulling hayride wagons and…

Bangor, Maine via Denver, Colorado-Hello Finn!

July 7-20, 2019 We pulled into the Cherry Creek State Park Campground, in Denver, set up camp and then begin packing for our trip to Bangor, Maine. Our daughter, Jade, was due to have her first child (our third grandchild) on July 9th and we didn’t want to miss it! Cherry Creek is a beautiful campground but unfortunately we had no time to explore it. We did see this beautiful young buck on the way to the airport on Monday…

Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge, Colorado

July 3-6, 2019 We checked into our beautiful spot at Tiger Run Resort on the water. This place was recommended to us by Scott, who we met on the way to Alaska last summer. He said that it was a fantastic camping spot and he was right! Right across the street from Tiger Run, along Highway 9, is the Blue River Recreational Path, a paved bike trail that extends from Frisco to Breckenridge. We rode about 10 miles round trip…

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colorado

June 29-July 2, 2019 We pulled into the Cheyenne Mountain State Park Campground, just outside of Colorado Springs, and found our beautiful, full hook-up site high up on the hill, overlooking the city. This park is fantastic, very spread out, with mule deer and prairie dogs. There is a hiking system with over 23 miles of trails, picnic areas, a disc golf course and even an archery range. Love it!     After waking up on Sunday morning and enjoying…

Buena Vista, Colorado

Buena Vista, Colorado

June 27-28, 2019 We left Montrose, Colorado heading for Buena Vista, stopping along the way to take in the view. We pulled into the Arrowhead Point Campground and I took a walk around to stretch my legs and check it out. One of the reasons we stopped in Buena Vista was to go to the Brown Canyon National Monument but once we got there we realized that in order to see the monument you either had to whitewater raft through…
