Hyder, Alaska

Hyder, Alaska

July 20-24, 2018 Driving along the Alaskan Highway on the way to Hyder, Alaska we stopped off just before Watson Lake for the night at Nugget City and stayed at the Baby Nugget RV Park. The park was a pleasant surprise since they had full hook-ups and trees with grass and shade. We walked up to the office where they had a cafe and sat out on the patio for a while in the shade. The next morning we turned…

Whitehorse, Yukon CA

Whitehorse, Yukon CA

July 17-19, 2018 After heading out of Alaska on the Alaskan Highway we stopped for the night in Destruction Bay, once again at the Cottonwood Campground. We ran into Ors again (who we shared a fire with at the Red Eagle Lodge) and he came over with a bottle of wine. It was raining out so no fire but we had some good conversation. Here are some scenes along the way and the campground. We left the next morning and…

Last Two Nights in Alaska…at least for now

Last Two Nights in Alaska…at least for now

July 15-16, 2018 I can’t believe we will be leaving Alaska. We left the lower 48 and entered into Canada forty-four days ago and the time has flown by! Last night we drove from Palmer to Chistochina and spent the night at the Red Eagle Lodge. We had camped there before on our last trip to Alaska about 8 years ago and it was just as we remembered. There were several restored old cabins that could be rented and the…

Palmer, Alaska

Palmer, Alaska

July 12-14, 2018 After spending two nights in Anchorage stocking up on supplies and drying out we headed to Palmer. When we arrived at the Big Bear Campground in Palmer it was sunny and warm…finally some sunshine after all that rain! We decided to play golf and made a twilight tee-time at the Palmer Golf Course for just after 4:00. It turned out to be a pretty nice course with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. It stayed warm for…

Homer, Alaska

Homer, Alaska

July 7-9, 2018 We left Seward behind and traveled to Homer on a beautiful day. On the way there we stopped to take pictures of this sweet Trumpeter swan family and then later pulled over to have lunch and take pictures as we entered Homer. There were several bald eagles flying around and I got a picture of one as it took off from the tree. After we ate our lunch and finished soaking in the view we proceeded on…

Kenai Fjords National Park

Kenai Fjords National Park

July 2018 Kenai Fjords was established as a National Park in 1980 and covers about 700,000 acres on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. We visited the park on two occasions during our stay in Seward, Alaska, once on the water and once on the ground. Our first trip into the park was on a 7.5 hour boat cruise with Major Marine Tours on the Glacier Express. We left at 10:00 am from the Small Boat Harbor in Seward on a…

Sister Time in Seward, Alaska

Sister Time in Seward, Alaska

June 30-July 6, 2018 After four days in Talkeetna my sisters, Linda and Lisa, Richard and I pulled in the slides on the motorhome, hooked up the CRV and headed for Seward, in the Kenai peninsula, about two hours south of Anchorage. We made great time and arrived at the Stoney Creek Campground, 6 miles north of Seward in the early afternoon. We took it easy that afternoon and hung around the camp site. On Sunday morning we headed to…

Denali National Park

Denali National Park

June 2018 Our first views of Denali National Park were from the air on our K2 Talkeetna Flight Tour. My sisters, Linda and Lisa, Richard and I were able to walk to the airport from our campground. We were a little disappointed when we showed up and they said the glacier landing was not possible due to a low fog bank over the landing area. They offered to reschedule the flight but we were so glad we didn’t because the…

Talkeetna, Alaska

Talkeetna, Alaska

June 26-29, 2018 We pulled out of Anchorage late on Tuesday morning heading north for Talkeetna and Denali National Park with my sisters, Linda and Lisa on board (with us for a 10-day visit). We arranged the recliner in the center of the two front seats so that Lisa and Linda could both of have a good view and I sat on the couch. We only had a two hour drive so we filled up with fuel and then took…
