Badlands National Park

Badlands National Park

September 2019 The last time I was at Badlands National Park we flew through so quickly I hardly remember what it looked like…but I knew it was cool and had always wanted to return. This time we had more time and visited the park on two separate days. The first day we were with our friend Andrea from Connecticut. We entered through the Pinnacles Entrance, just south of Wall, South Dakota. After entering the park we took a right on…

Wall, South Dakota

Wall, South Dakota

September 22-24, 2019 We left Custer, South Dakota heading towards Wall with our friend from Connecticut, Andrea, riding shotgun. She loved the great views of the road from the front seat. We set up camp at the Sleepy Hollow Campground at the edge of downtown Wall and then headed to Badlands National Park. You can read about that at the National Parks tab, Rocky Mountains. Andrea took us out for dinner that night in Wall at the Badlands Saloon &…

Wind Cave National Park

Wind Cave National Park

September 2019 Most people that visit Wind Cave National Park only see the underground labyrinth that makes up the caves for which the park is named and not the spectacular ecosystem that lies above ground. As for us, the exact opposite was true. The cave tours had been halted due to maintenance problems with the elevators that take people down for the cave tours so we were forced to spend the day above ground…and what a great time we had!…

Custer, South Dakota (Wind Cave National Park)

September 18-21, 2019 We left Colter Bay Campground in Grand Teton National Park, heading east towards the Togwotee Pass. The weather started out rainy, then turned to sleet and finally to full blown snow by the time we reached the summit at 9,455 feet! We were relieved to descend back into the rain and then sunshine at lower elevations on the other side of the pass. After spending one night in Casper, Wyoming at the KOA, we proceeded on to…

Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park

September 2019 Grand Teton National Park provides stunning views of mountains, glaciers, valleys, rivers and lakes, in addition to many varieties of wildlife. Since it is connected to Yellowstone National Park via the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Highway it is a must see if you are visiting Yellowstone. Make sure you allow ample time to see all that Grand Teton has to offer. On our first day in the park we entered via the south Craig Thomas Visitor Center where…

Victor, Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming and Colter Bay (Grand Teton National Park)

September 8-16, 2019 After leaving West Yellowstone we traveled south to Victor, Idaho to camp at the Teton Valley Resort, not too far from the south entrance to the Grand Teton National Park. We went to the park all day the next day and you can read all about it at the National Parks tab, Rocky Mountains. The next day we drove about an hour into Idaho Falls to get an oil change and groceries. The following day was rainy…

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park

September 2019 We love, love, love Yellowstone National Park! In addition to amazing scenery and unique features (like geysers and steam vents) it also has abundant wildlife. Even though Labor Day is in the past and the kids are back in school, we knew that the park would still be crowded and were advised the best time to go was early morning. So we bought some breakfast danish at Mountain Mama’s the night before, got up at 6am, made a…

West Yellowstone, Montana (Yellowstone National Park)

West Yellowstone, Montana (Yellowstone National Park)

September 2-7, 2019 Leaving Bozeman on Monday morning we drove south, through Big Sky and other beautiful parts of Montana. We stopped in one spot to have lunch and clean some of the bugs off the front of the RV with water and dryer sheets, a trick we learned from a fellow traveler on the way to Alaska. We rolled into Buffalo Crossing Campground in West Yellowstone, Montana and, just as promised, it was only a block outside of town,…

Bozeman, Montana

Bozeman, Montana

August 28-September 1, 2019 We left Kalispell, Montana on August 29 and spent one night in Deer Lodge before rolling into Bozeman, Montana on the 30th. We stayed at an awesome campground there over the Labor Day weekend called Bozeman Hot Springs Campground & RV Park. It was a nice and neat campground, adjacent to the the Bozeman Hot Springs pools (more on that later). There was a unique fitness area where you could climb a rope or flip huge…
