Tombstone, Arizona

Tombstone, Arizona

February 18-21, 2018 Running from the cold in New Mexico, we traveled to Tombstone, Arizona, about 60 miles southeast of Tucson. We checked into the Tombstone RV Park and got settled. Turns out this is an equestrian campground and it was fun petting the horses and talking to some of their owners. Some of these people travel all the way from Canada with their horses to winter in the Arizona mountains.   On Monday we drove to Bisbee, Arizona for…

Las Cruces, New Mexico

Las Cruces, New Mexico

February 11-17, 2018 We checked onto the Hacienda RV & Rally Resort for a week. The spots are a bit tight, and surprisingly there were no picnic tables, but the location is good and we had fantastic views of the spectacular Organ Mountains. On our first day we headed to the White Sands National Monument, 54 miles east of Las Cruces. This is an amazing sight of pure white sand shimmering in the sun, that looks like snow in the…

Guadalupe Mountains National Park-Texas

Guadalupe Mountains National Park-Texas

February 2018 The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is located in Texas near the border of New Mexico, about 35 miles southwest of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. It is primarily a hiking park with few paved roads. Our first stop was the Pine Springs Visitor Center where we got a map of the park and went on a one mile walk to the Pinery, ruins of the mid-1800’s Butterfield stagecoach station. Next we drove to the Frijole Ranch History Museum to…

Carlsbad Cavern National Park – New Mexico

Carlsbad Cavern National Park – New Mexico

February 2018 Richard and I have been in many caves but this one was truly amazing! We arrived at 10 am for the 90 minute, 1-mile King’s Palace guided tour. It was $8 for me and $4 for Richard…well worth it! We took the elevator from the visitors center down 750′ to the main rest area (gift shop and reataurant) where our tour began. Ranger Rick was our tour guide and he was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. He took us…

Carlsbad, New Mexico

Carlsbad, New Mexico

February 7-10, 2018 With proximity to two National Parks, Carlsbad, New Mexico was the perfect spot for us. The Carlsbad KOA was really nice but we didn’t spend much time at the camp site with everything there was to do in the area. The drive from Fort Davis to Carlsbad was along state highways, one of which was particularly rough. Try to avoid 285 if you’re near the Texas/New Mexico border. In addition be being rough, there was lots of…

Fort Davis, Texas – Javelina Heaven

Fort Davis, Texas – Javelina Heaven

February 5-6, 2018 We left Lajitas, Texas on the lookout for javelinas and we found them in the Davis Mountains. Don’t mistake the javelina for a pig, even though they do look similar. The javelina feeds on prickly pear cactus so you know they are tough! Here is the first family we saw from the RV. After arriving at Davis Mountains State Park, we set up camp and then went to get one of the tires on the CRV checked…

Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park

January 29-February 6, 2018 This National Park definitely makes my top 5 list! I really loved it and three days in the Park was just barely enough time to see everything. On our first day we headed to the western-most point in the Park, Santa Elena Canyon Overlook.  On the way we passed the old Sam Nail Ranch and took a short hike to ruins from the house and windmill. The scenery was so beautiful, including Mule Ears View point…

Lajitas Texas, Big Bend National Park

Lajitas Texas, Big Bend National Park

January 29-February 5, 2018 We had an unexpectedly wonderful time in Lajitas, Texas. There were many things that made Lajitas so great: Big Bend National Park, the beauty of the surroundings and friends we made here. For details on Big Bend National Park please check out the National Parks tab. I loved this park and I hope you will read about it! The town of Lajitas is small, in fact the GPS didn’t even recognize it. Mainly what is there…

On The Way to Big Bend in Fort Stockton, Texas

On The Way to Big Bend in Fort Stockton, Texas

It was too far to drive from San Antonio to Lajitas, so we decided to spend the night in Fort Stockton, Texas.  We found this great little park called Fort Stockton RV Park. It was definitely a stop along the way for many RV travelers and we had fun watching all the big rigs roll in during the late afternoon and then roll out in the morning in a steady stream. The guy in the office said they have 40-50…

Lovin’ San Antonio, Texas

Lovin’ San Antonio, Texas

January 24-27, 2018 As soon as we arrived at Traveler’s World RV park in San Antonio, Texas we knew we were going to love it because just outside the gates was the 14+ mile San Antonio River Walk Trail. It is a beautiful, wide, paved trail that runs along the San Antonio River with lots of bridges and parks.  Here is a picture of our camp site and the entrance to the River Walk. On our first day we hopped…
