New Favorite Spot in Fort DeSoto State Park, St. Pete Florida

New Favorite Spot in Fort DeSoto State Park, St. Pete Florida

This is definitely on the top 5 campground list! Waterfront camping with a beautiful beach just 10 minutes away by bike. Plus it’s close to family and friends. As we made our way across the Sunshine Skyway bridge on a beautiful sunny day in December I knew this was going to be a special place. We backed into our spot (#215), set up camp and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on our first night.   We took a bike ride the…

Myakka River State Park, Sarasota Florida

Myakka River State Park, Sarasota Florida

What a beautiful state park this is and with over 7 miles of biking trails, perfect for us! The first day we just parked the RV in our spot and then headed back to Lakeland to check on Richard’s mom. It was about a 90 minute drive back to Lakeland. We ended up driving back and forth a few times over the next 4 days but we did get to enjoy some of what the park had to offer while…

Cortez, Bradenton Beach, Florida

Cortez, Bradenton Beach, Florida

We stayed at the Holiday Cove RV Resort in Cortez and it was a beautiful place, very close to Bradenton Beach and Sarasota. The campground was small but all of the roads were paved and the RV spots all had brick pavers and lots of palm trees. Across from us the sites were on a canal with boat docks and access to the ocean. Here are some pictures of the campground. We drove down to the beach with our bikes…

Naples Florida

Naples Florida

I’ve never tried so hard to get into a campground and been so disappointed. I had to call Rock Creek RV Resort multiple times to get a reservation there and when I called the morning before we arrived they said they had no record of our reservation. Ugh! They said that they did have room for us so we went there. They gave us a “premium” pull through site that was in a very crowded area near the office and…

Chokoloskee Island, Everglades City FL

Chokoloskee Island, Everglades City FL

Our spot at Outdoor Resorts-Chokoloskee Island, with our own private dock, was definitely in the top 10 ever! Just check out these pictures of Chokoloskee Bay and I know you will agree it was spectacular, especially with that full moon! Unfortunately we continued to see devastation from hurricane Irma in the town of Everglades City. We rode our bikes from the campground into Everglades City and it was eerily deserted and quiet. Everywhere you looked you could see hurricane damage,…

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park

The Everglades is the largest tropical wilderness in the U.S. and the 3rd largest national park (after Death Valley and Yellowstone). The park was established in 1934 to protect the quickly vanishing Everglades and is home to 36 threatened or protected species, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile and West Indian manatee. We drove south to Florida City and then headed west to the park entrance at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. The entrance fee was $25 but…

Biscayne National Park

Biscayne National Park

Biscayne National Park, south of Homestead, FL is 95% water. We went to the visitors center and explored the shore a bit. To really see the Park you need to snorkel or dive but we decided to just enjoy the shoreline. The Biscayne National Monument was formed in 1968 to save Biscayne Bay from development and construction of a deepwater seaport. In 1980 the National Park was formed. Apart from the visitor’s center its land and sea areas

Two for One in Miami, Florida

Two for One in Miami, Florida

From our beautiful campsite in the Miami Everglades RV Resort we were able to visit two National Parks: Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park. You can read about each of these parks under the National Parks tab. On our way to this RV resort Richard was a bit skeptical because after leaving the highway we traveled through miles and miles of plant nurseries getting there. When we finally arrived it was truly a very nice resort, complete with pool,…
