Exploring Ohio-May 21-24, 2023

I’m baaaaaaak! After a long break from blogging, time spent with friends and family in Tennessee, Hawaii, Florida and Maine, we are on the road again with some new adventures!

Our first stop was to explore the area around Dayton, Ohio with our friends John and Ana. We met up with them in Springfield, Ohio and set up camp for our four-night stay. Our first outing was to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2023. Entrance is free to this world’s largest military aviation museum housing over 350 aerospace vehicles and missiles and thousands of artifacts.

The exhibits are presented by years/wars beginning with WWII, then the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cold War galleries. Here are some of the displays. Very cool.

Next was the Missile Gallery and then a space shuttle replica.

One of my favorite exhibits was the Presidential Gallery with airplanes used by former presidents, including the Independence, specifically built to transport the President of the United States, used by President Truman from 1947-1953.

It’s definitely a worthwhile stop if you are in the Dayton area.

The next day we went on a bike ride on the Little Miami Scenic Trail. It was a pretty ride and we miraculously ended up at Young’s Dairy Farm where John had been wanting to go for some delicious ice cream. I had a hot fudge sundae with a side of hot caramel. So yummy!

John took us on a tour of the area the next day, stopping off in Yellow Springs for lunch at Ye Olde Trail Tavern and then a visit to the Clifton Mill.

On our last night together we decided to go to a Columbus Clippers minor league baseball game at Huntington Field. It was a perfect evening and we ate peanuts, hot dogs and drank cold beer…plus watched a fun baseball game. What could be better?

We had a great time in Ohio and look forward to seeing John and Ana again in the fall.

Next we are on to Maine for a couple of weeks and then off on our Canadian adventure to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland!
