Last Week In Canada

Last Week In Canada

August 8-14, 2022

We woke up on Monday August 8th and kicked off our last week in Canada, with about 1,800 miles left to get to Hermon, Maine near Bangor. It was my birthday so we ate our special cinnamon rolls from the Whitehouse Bakery and set off for Kenora, Ontario. We camped at Anicinabe Park on a pretty lake and enjoyed our pull-in site.

We had a fun zoom call with our friends Bill & Beverly that evening with them wearing party hats in honor of my birthday 🙂

The next morning we took off for our two-night stay in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We camped at Chippewa Park, a very nice spot on Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes. It had a small amusement park and walking trails to a sandy beach for me.

In the afternoon we drove to nearby Kakebeka Falls, with a scenic boardwalk providing spectacular views from both sides of the 130′ drop into the gorge below. It has been dubbed “the Niagara of the North”…but that might be a bit of an exaggeration if you ask me.

The next day we had a long drive to Agawa Bay North campground in Lake Superior Provincial Park, directly on the shores of Lake Superior. Once we checked in Richard unhooked the truck and I went in to find our site while he waited at the entrance. Well I could tell it was going to be a very tight fit to get the RV into through the trees so I got Richard to ride back there with me in the truck. He agreed it would be a challenge but felt confident that he could get the RV in there. I walked up ahead to help him maneuver around some of the tightest spots. It was very stressful with literally inches to spare on either side, plus the crazy steps kept going in and out until he could figure out how to keep them in. Yikes, I sure was happy when we got parked without any damage! We were wedged between the trees and couldn’t even get one of the slides out.

Once we were settled in we did enjoy our view of the lake and a beautiful sunset.

We were sad to leave the next morning, especially since it was so difficult to get in, but we had to get on our way. We drove to Sturgeon Falls to stay at the KOA there…with a very nice wide open camping area!

The next day we set off for Quebec, with the Montreal South KOA as our destination. As soon as we entered Quebec everything was in French. Fortunately they came up with lots of pictures to go with the words so you could usually tell what the signs meant.

Finally we entered back into the good old USA the next day, so happy to cross the Maine border after 3 weeks in Canada.

And the best part was seeing the grandchildren, Finn and Poppy, once we got to Hermon where our daughter Jade and her husband Brendan live.

We plan to be in Maine until the end of August and then we’ll head to Franklin, TN to visit the other grandchildren where we’ll be until the end of October. From Sept 12-27 we’re going on our long-awaited European trip to Amsterdam, Paris and Bavaria (originally planned for 2020) and then I will be visiting my father in Hawaii for a week so I won’t be blogging for a while.

Enjoy the end of this beautiful summer and check in again sometime next Spring for more adventures!
